$99 for an eight week session paid via Venmo or Zelle (Book Club fee)
Every eight weeks students in the club select a book based on suggestions from members and the facilitator. The books can be psychology/business books or books about American culture. The books are short enough so that only 30-40 pages will be read a week. It is understood that members have limited free time.
We meet once a week via Zoom. We discuss ideas from that week’s reading using a discussion guide that is sent out earlier in the week. The discussion guide contains quotes, questions, vocabulary words, a writing prompt, and even a crossword puzzle using the vocabulary words. The discussion is relaxed and informal. We do not always discuss all the questions and other questions and ideas often arise. Students are encouraged to critically think and add to the discussion, but there are no requirements to do so.
Experience the joy of literary exploration with fellow book lovers and increase your confidence in discussing ideas.
Some of the books we have read in the past:
Atomic Habits by James Clear
Becoming by Michelle Obama
Educated by Tara Westover
Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson
Team of Five by Kate Anderson Brower
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Supercommunicators by Charles Duhigg
How to Work with (Almost) Anyone by Michael Bungay Stanier
The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins
Co-Intelligence: Living and Working with AI by Ethan Mollick
A little bit about me:
My name is Carolyn Fox. I love to read. Over the last five years I have taken this passion and facilitated the ESL Book Club. As a TEFL certified instructor, with an MBA and undergraduate degree in Education, this book club combines improving your English speaking and writing skills with reading books on business topics or American culture. Using my curriculum experience as a teacher, I provide a discussion guide each week for a set number of pages of the book. Besides the weekly discussion, you may complete any or all of the work each week to enhance your English skills, which I can review if you so choose. The objective of this book club is to increase your enjoyment and confidence in reading books in English while furthering your understanding of English and American culture.
